The start of Autumn reminds me of falling tree leaves, cooler weather and shorter days. I like to preserve the beauty of this natural transformation in a wall hanging.
To make a wall hanging, you will need:
· 1½ cups of plain flour
· ½ cup of table salt
· ½ cup of water
· Rolling pin
· Leaves of different sizes
· Plastic knife
· Skewer/straw
· A loose tree branch
· Cotton string
Step 1: Mix flour and salt together then add water gradually. Preheat oven to 150°C.
Step 2: Knead the dough until it doesn’t feel sticky.
Step 3: Place dough on top of the baking paper. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to 5mm thick.
Step 4: Place a leaf on the dough.
Step 5: Trace and cut out the shape from the dough.
Step 6: Use a skewer/straw to make a small hole at the top. Bake the dough in the oven for at least 1 hour or until firm and dry.
Step 7: Once the dough has cooled down, paint the leaves.
Step 8: Cut the string into different length. Tie a knot at one end then insert into the hole.
Step 9: Tie the leaves to the branch. Tie a longer string at both ends of the branch to hang on the wall.
And there you have it! An awesome autumn leaf for you to hang on your wall as a lovely decoration! At Craft Nation we love all things craft and have developed a range of educational craft kits for kids that you can shop here.
